Podcast podcast podcast!
Oct. 10th, 2026 05:56 pm
Okay, first up we've got the Dangerous Maybe podcast with hosts Mikey and Nance. Regulars will remember this as the show where I had a memorable and surprisingly congenial conversation with Nick Land, accelerationist mage and current idol of the Silicon Valley technofuturist scene. This one is another meeting of very different minds, and if anything it's a little odder. Chris Cutrone is a Marxist university professor who's spent years now talking about why the Marxist left has failed to deal with the realities of our time; he sometimes calls himself the Last Marxist. As Nance put it, "The last Marxist, an archdruid, and two high school dropouts walk into a bar..." That's more or less what happened, too. The four of us talked for a little over two and a half hours about philosophy, politics, magic, and a great deal more; it was a pleasant, lively conversation, and while I don't think anybody changed their mind about anything, I think we all went away with a much richer and more nuanced sense of the landscape of ideas under discussion. Check it out here.
Next is the Legalise Freedom podcast with host Greg Moffit. It's been quite a while since I was last on Greg's show but the chemistry was as good as always. Our ostensible topic this time was my anthology of W.B. Yeats's magical writings, but the discussion spun away as usual in all kinds of interesting directions, with politics particularly high up on the list. Greg ended up titling the conversation "What Is Magic? Mass Hypnosis, Mind Power, and the Struggle for your Soul," which pretty much summarizes the theme. You can listen to the first half of it free here, here, here, or here; the second half is for subscribers, but Greg is offering a steep discount for my readers -- enter the code LF50 and you get half off the subscription rate. Greg's shows are always lively, so if podcasts are your thing this might be just what you wanted.
Third is the Pearl Snap Tactical Podcast with host Mark. I doubt anybody will have trouble guessing that Mark is on the opposite end of half a dozen spectrums from Chris Cutrone, who I mentioned above -- though I suspect the two of them could have a lively and pleasant conversation if they gave it a try! Mark and I talked about the rise of populism in today's America, the accelerating decline of the decadent managerial elite, the rise of a new entrepreneurial elite, and the cascading changes in American society, politics, economics, and culture that are unfolding out of the current elite replacement cycle. It's on all the usual podcast venues, but Mark suggests his Substack as a good portal; you'll find it here.
Ogham Readings on Saturdays
Oct. 9th, 2026 09:36 pm
-a one card reading to answer a specific question and a three card for a more nuanced question
-Two separate readings, two cards a piece exploring the positives and negatives of two different choices
I am happy to do Ogham readings confidentially via emails -- just email me at k steele studio at gmail during the allotted time/before deadline. I cannot answer health questions. If you have a question about health or another sensitive, private matter, provide a bunch of non-identifying information and the Ogham will be able to figure it out even if I don't. I'm serious... the Ogham actually tend to "know" things without me being privy to what is going on.
My next planned break is from October 23 - 29, 2026.
For a more in depth look into how I read and interpret the Ogham's symbols, please visit my website druidogham.wordpress.com.
Thank you for your generous donations. They often buy cat food and litter, groceries, and take out burritos and sandwiches for my Mom and me. If you would like to donate, please do it here:

Oct. 8th, 2026 01:18 pm
I'm delighted to announce that the fifth novel in my Ariel Moravec occult detective series is now available for preorders. The Sign of the Phoenix pits Ariel against two puzzling mysteries that turn out to be more closely connected than she realizes. Someone is using evil magic to frighten the residents in an apartment building and a young real estate investor. As she and her grandfather begin work on this case, an old lap desk she buys from her favorite thrift store turns out to have riddles of its own surrounding it -- and who is leaving unsigned notes warning her of imminent danger? Before Ariel can untangle the threads that bind these puzzles together, she must confront one of the most dangerous mages in Adocentyn, deal with a legacy from her own troubled past, and make a discovery that will transform her future.

Oct. 7th, 2026 11:44 amNOAA updates the advisories every four hours, and I now have a running mental ticker counting down to the next update, trying to decide if we stay put, or get out of dodge. We're on high ground, concrete house. Main concerns are: big tree next to the house, and do I really want to be here when all the noise arrives. And also: sometimes the wind estimates are really inaccurate this far out. I'm fine to stay put up to a C3. 4 and up though: I'd like to avoid the hearing damage, if nothing else. Husband is essential personnel and not allowed to leave.
So... next couple days is all: button up the house, catch up the laundry, use up cold groceries, pack go bags, and watch the weather.
We'll be fine.
I missed this video this morning...
Oct. 6th, 2026 09:34 pmOctober 2026 Covid Open Post
Oct. 6th, 2026 09:31 am
These open posts on the Covid fiasco and its aftermath have continued to draw a steady stream of comments; clearly there are still plenty of people who want access to a forum for discussion on that topic not dominated by either of the two heavily promoted narratives -- the medical-industry party line or the conspiracy-culture party line. The current schedule is to post one of these on the first Tuesday of each month, and keep it open and active until the next one goes up. The rules are the same as before:1. If you plan on parroting the party line of the medical industry and its paid shills, please go away. This is a place for people to talk openly, honestly, and freely about their concerns that the party line in question is dangerously flawed and that actions being pushed by the medical industry and its government enablers are causing injury and death on a massive scale. It is not a place for you to dismiss those concerns. Anyone who wants to hear the official story and the arguments in favor of it can find those on hundreds of thousands of websites.
2. If you plan on insisting that the current situation is the result of a deliberate plot by some villainous group of people or other, please go away. There are tens of thousands of websites currently rehashing various conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 outbreak and the vaccines. This is not one of them. What we're exploring is the likelihood that what's going on is the product of the same arrogance, incompetence, and corruption that the medical industry and its wholly owned politicians have displayed so abundantly in recent decades. That possibility deserves a space of its own for discussion, and that's what we're doing here.
3. If you plan on using rent-a-troll derailing or disruption tactics, please go away. I'm quite familiar with the standard tactics used by troll farms to disrupt online forums, and am ready, willing, and able -- and in fact quite eager -- to ban people permanently for engaging in them here. Oh, and I also lurk on other Covid-19 vaccine skeptic blogs, so I'm likely to notice when the same posts are showing up on more than one venue.
4. If you plan on making off topic comments, please go away. This is an open post for discussion of the Covid epidemic, the vaccines, drugs, policies, and other measures that supposedly treat it, and other topics directly relevant to those things. It is not a place for general discussion of unrelated topics. Nor is it a place to ask for medical advice; giving such advice, unless you're a licensed health care provider, legally counts as practicing medicine without a license and is a crime in the US. Don't even go there.
5. If you don't believe in treating people with common courtesy, please go away. I have, and enforce, a strict courtesy policy on my blogs and online forums, and this is no exception. The sort of schoolyard bullying that takes place on so many other internet forums will get you deleted and banned here. Also, please don't drag in current quarrels about sex, race, religions, etc. No, I don't care if you disagree with that: my journal, my rules.
6. Please don't just post bare links without explanation. A sentence or two telling readers what's on the other side of the link is a reasonable courtesy, and if you don't include it, your attempted post will be deleted.
7. Please don't post LLM ("AI") generated text. This is a place for human beings to talk to other human beings, not for the regurgitation of machine-generated text. Also, please don't discuss large language models (the technology popularly and inaccurately called "artificial intelligence" these days) except as they bear directly on the Covid phenomenon. Here again, my finger is hovering over the delete button.
Please also note that nothing posted here should be construed as medical advice, which neither I nor the commentariat (excepting those who are licensed medical providers) are qualified to give. Please take your medical questions to the licensed professional provider of your choice.
With that said, the floor is open for discussion.
ROMAN GODS OF THE MONTH: OCTOBER 11 to 31
Oct. 6th, 2026 09:00 amLAST CALL for beta update and inbox page
Oct. 6th, 2026 01:37 amIt's only been... okay, I don't want to think how long.
We are preparing to take the beta update page and the beta inbox out of beta with the next code release. We don't have an exact date yet, but this is your last chance to tell us about problems!
To enable the beta versions: go to Beta Features and enable the "new Create Entries" beta test for the new update page and the "New Inbox Page" for the, well, new inbox page.
If this is your first time using the beta update page: nearly everything on it can be adjusted, moved, or removed to some degree. The upper right side of the update form has a " ⚙️ Rearrange Panels" link.
Not every panel is enabled by default! If you don't see something you're used to finding, look in the disabled panels. While in Rearrange mode, you can enable or disable panels, drag them to whatever position you want, and generally customize it to your heart's content.
Once we push the button and switch to the new update and inbox pages for everyone, we cannot keep the old ones available. We are so close to finishing the decade-long "get rid of the undocumented custom templating language from 1996 that no one else uses" modernization project that's been sapping our collective will to live that we can taste it, and we can't convert the old update page and the updated inbox page is the converted version. This is your last chance to alert us of problems. If you let us know after the switch goes live, we'll still fix it, but we can't guarantee how fast. Prevent future problems and test drive them now!
Wardrobe Strategy
Oct. 5th, 2026 08:39 amI did the iron infusion. It'll probably take a couple weeks to find out if it worked or not. Here's hoping! In the meantime, digestive woes continue unabated and... I'm ready to write the new hot diet plan nobody wants to follow: How to Lose Weight on Avocado Smoothies and Liverwurst! I mean, it also includes soft-scrambled eggs, coconut milk, tuna salad, and various powdered vegetable things to liven up the smoothies. But all of that gets very boring very quickly, for all that it's fairly nutritionally complete. The digestive complaint means I've had to abandon dairy for the duration, and I am diabetic anyway, so I can't just fruit-smoothie my way through this. It is a complicated logic puzzle with multiple pieces I'm trying to shuffle around with the singular goal of: getting enough iron, without further wrecking my digestion or screwing up my blood sugar. So far, we are getting by. Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll have more energy and start being able to exercise again, which will raise my carb limit and give me some broader options. Carrots, maybe!
I've lost ~15 pounds and one pants size. Even my elastic-waist skirts are getting perilously loose, and some of my jeans and non-elastic skirts have had to go in a box. So far, most of the loss seems to have been in the gut and peripheral areas. All my tops still fit. Jeans and skirts are not faring well. I'm going to have to replace stuff soon, on a budget of fairy tears and unicorn farts.
Fortunately, I'm good at that. All my clothes are already thrifted. Now it's more of... which skirts can I take a tuck in and wear longer? And where I absolutely must replace... what's the best thing to replace it *with*? Weight loss has not shown any signs of plateauing yet. I'm not worried about that: so far we're still in post-baby-weight territory. I've got another 12 pounds or so before I'm back down to my pre-kids weight, and another five after that before I get into underweight territory. A safe margin. I think. the challenge is: I don't seem to have much control over it, I have no idea how long it will continue, and also not sure if I will regain the weight once some of these problems are (hopefully) solved.
So... the more durable clothing that no longer fits, I'm deep-cleaning and putting in a storage box. If it still doesn't fit this time next year, it can go to a donation bin. The still-OK skirts that are amenable, I'm planning to take a tuck in the back and keep wearing. Dresses are holding up very well: everything still fits. I'm in my "housedress era" as the kids might say. The problem remains: some of my key clothing no longer fits, and other things are wearing out at the usual rate and will need replacing. Some awkwardness creeps in: what do I replace them with? The same thing in a smaller size (with the attendant risk of shrinking out of it again, or regaining the weight and having a too-small thing)? This seems foolish. I should probably learn from what remains in my wardrobe, and seek to fill current vacancies with the most forgiving clothes I can find: serviceable high-waisted (or no-waisted) dresses, and gathered drawstring/elastic skirts that will tolerate having their wasitbands rejiggered. The tricky part is: these have always been the hardest things to thrift, precisely because they don't become unusable through a size change or two, so they don't get culled from other people's closets before they are worn out.
I have broadened my search to the local consignments, ebay, and thredup. Where else should I be searching? I keep thinking of those old FreePeople clothes they used to sell at the hippie stores, everything marked "Free size"... I know those are still around but they are 100% rayon and I'm not quite that desperate yet. I wish those empire-waisted dresses with the denim tops and floral skirts that were popular in the 90s would come back into fashion. They're about due, right?
Becoming Anti-Parasocial
Oct. 4th, 2026 08:08 pmWhen you have an emptiness in your life and it causes a great deal of emotional pain, parasocial relationships are very seductive. When you are unfulfilled and disenchanted by normalcy and constantly suspect it will never make you happy, a parasocial relationship is a convenient placeholder and a way to put off meaningful relationships. Delayed gratification becomes gratifying in itself, and the retreat into a fantasy island where the perfect mate awaits with a bouquet of roses and zero expectations, attachments, or responsibilities is the path of least resistance. Real relationships are both boring and dramatic in a way that parasocial relationships are not. Ennui and a continued lowering of standards mar the long-term love relationship as both partners age and inevitably evolve towards different interests than white hot passion -- unless one is a celebrity, we usually do not get more physically attractive with each passing year. To put it more simply, aging is not pretty and people are shallow. Men and women both leave relationships for greener and younger pastures when the going gets tough because the guy loses his job or the wife starts looking a great deal like her mother. The parasocial relationship suffers no such handicaps.
They dream of Hogwarts
One of the saddest things I have ever seen online is entire groups of people who convince themselves they can and should slide through fictional worlds by . . . napping. The practice of "shifting" or "reality shifting" is part mental role play and part obsessive fan fiction. To shift, you first must choose a source material: usually a major franchise such as Harry Potter or Marvel. You then compose or write a script for yourself as if you are playing yourself in the desired world. The last step is to use meditation or lucid dreaming and conjure the desired world around you, completely supplanting your own mundane experience with the preferred milieu.
Shifting into Hogwarts presumes that one can daydream oneself into a part of the time-space continuum that is composed of J.K. Rowling's most famous characters doing their business as if the series played somewhere in an endless loop. Shifters report meeting Harry, Hermione, Dumbledore, and Snape. The cringiest shift while filming themselves while lying supine in bed, yelping if they have to jump out of the way of a runaway quidditch and spouting spontaneous Temu Latin limericks in imaginary Herbology classes.
Many shifters become depressed, counting the minutes spent in crappy, low-paid jobs, hellish schools, and dismal normie life and try to permashift into the fantasy world. The fantasy world is always the full Mary Sue/Marty Stu Revue where the shifter becomes the perfect hero of her custom-tailored story. Privation, pain, and suffering is off the table during shifts; instead, it is a deluxe, all-inclusive spa for the mind. Though pre-fab worlds are preferred venues, many travel to idealized pasts, like 1980s shopping malls or Regency era Britain. Some go as far to report that they have had children in alternate timelines. Again, nothing is off the table . . . except confronting one's own shadow. Pretending everything is absolutely wonderful carries a price. Depression about the provisional lifestyle of shifting is so bad, Reddit has a thread on r/shiftingrealities warning about coded talk about suicide and self-harm.
When I was a teen, I tried to shift into an alternate timeline/reality. I tried to convince myself that the back of my piano could be entered like a Narnian portal and that it would plop me down in my dearest Waverly romantasy where I could be swept away by a shining knight or cunning archmage. Even though this world was based on the Dark Ages, somehow everyone in it bathed (not sure how they found indoor plumbing in winter) and I was able to see without contacts or glasses. In real life, my eyeglasses resemble the bottoms of old Coke bottles. Details aside, the general sentiment was the same as the modern shifter's: Anywhere is better than here, any time is better than now.
Back in the day, girls were in love with David Cassidy. Before him, it was The Beatles. Before them, it was Elvis. Before him, girls threw fits over Frank Sinatra. Before him, women went ape for Rasputin. Before him, it was Lord Byron, who received multiple gifts of pubic hair from his number one (married) stalker and paramour, Lady Caroline Lamb, and also got some pubes from Italian countess Teresa Guiccioli.
Women and girls are not the only ones who go nuts over celebrities, and in recent years especially, boys and men have joined the fray of parasocial hysterics. They are often right there next to their female counterparts at the Taylor Swift concert.
Yeah, I had to mention her. Taylor Swift is not the worst songwriter or musician I have ever heard. To be intellectually honest, some of her songs are pretty good. Her voice is neither great nor terrible. Taylor Swift calls herself "only ever a 4" on the looks scale in her latest song, Cleveland!, which is more of her usual male-centered pablum. She also admits she is completely insufferable, which is almost funny, but she does not say it directly. She may be insufferable; she looks fine. Taylor Swift does well in beautiful gowns as Aretha Franklin once noted, and she is at least an 8.5 if you are into tall blonds and can get past her uncanny resemblance to Napoleon Dynamite. Her music and voice are actually the problem, as they have always been a solid 4, yet until recently has always been billed as a genius 10.
The Asians are not OK
Terminally Drifting wrote a banger of an article on Chinese dating and the convoluted labyrinth of marriage in a society that aborted its way to a current surplus of 30 million men and not nearly enough women. The result has been a top-heavy mushroom of a population where 4 out of any 10 people will be elderly in 2050. Korea and Japan are in similar demographic pickles, and though they are not as male-heavy as China, they have been afflicted with population busts that often strain the few working people to literal death.
Conformity as psychosis plays itself out in Asian pop, which pushes increasingly impossible beauty standards. Beauty is crafted into addiction in South Korea and has made it into the plastic surgery capital of the world. Nearly 1 in 4 South Korean women between the ages of 25-35 have had cosmetic surgery (at the time of this writing) according to a Statista survey of 1500 people. It is also estimated that 30 percent of men of the same age group have opted for at least one cosmetic procedure. The driver of this economic engine is K-pop.
K-pop has been around since the 1990s, and if you are familiar with the Backstreet Boys, N Sync, or the Spice Girls, the model is the same: they are bands fabricated by labels and management companies. The K-pop trainee starts young, often before his or her teens, and is chosen for malleability and attractiveness. K-pop stars are then molded, tortured, put through surgeries and diets, and the end result is a bunch of clones who lend credibility to the "they all look alike" racial epithet that is often hurled at Asians.
K-pop is an industry dedicated to breeding conformity. The K-pop star conforms to a beauty standard that is created for her by a group of executives who make her in the image they believe the public wants, and the public responds by making themselves into the image of the K-pop star. K-pop stars are ultra-thin, forced to starve or to be kicked out of the regime. Their behavior is policed until they become the personality version of fast food. The now-despised cartoon movie KPop Demon Hunters featured tall, skeletal heroines that made Barbie look short and stocky. For a country so beset with short people, the Korean obsession with height is Sisyphean.
China is all about livestreaming and AI filters, and it inundates its popular media with suspiciously white-looking, tall, busty women who look like dark-haired, starving, half-Scottish space aliens. The easy availability of plastic surgery procedures has created a feedback loop where the Chinese women who are naive and young enough to give a crap what boys think are morphing themselves into creepy hapa Wednesday dolls. Again, the ideal is tall and skeletal -- some filters make their subjects look like they are suffering from giantism. The general rebellion against being a shortie is well underway, and along with it, there is an ongoing fight with the mono-lidded eye, naturally small breasts, flat noses, and tawny skin. We cannot have onlooker suspecting that at least half of the subject's ancestors did not come from the pallid-fleshed UK!
Influencing is a full time job
The never-ending recession and soft depression we are in has generated its own psychosis in the West, and that is the sickness of wanting to be an influencer. According to a survey of 1000 Gen Zs by morningconsult.com, 57 percent said they wanted to be influencers. The perpetual Show & Tell of influencing is not lucrative -- very few break $15,000 a year. As a micro-influencer myself, I can assure you that I am keeping my day job.
Influencing is hard work, especially if it is the kind that is lucrative. An influencer becomes their own multimedia company, generating and pushing out content in the form of images, sounds, and publicity, and if they stop the flow for more than a few hours, they run the risk of becoming irrelevant and swallowed up by the copious competition.
Influencers are wannabe cult leaders, and running your own DIY cult sucks up plenty of time and energy.
They cannot live their lives without being obligated to document it. Every part of their existence becomes brand courtship and content creation. They also cannot show their ugly. Being an influencer means being all false transcendence, all the time. Many lifestyle influencers rent fancy clothes, bags, cars, and actual mansions in order to pretend they have more money than debt. Their fraud is not confined to AI tune ups of their faces and environments, at least for now.
Furthermore, there are influencers that are entirely AI with bogus backstories and ethnic origins. You cannot win. Whether real or fake, every last influencer is designed to trick you and your loved ones into buying crap you don't need and enriching a CEO in a penthouse who nobody likes. The hope and the dream is yet another iteration of something for nothing and playing the gee-tar on the MTV -- being famous because other people watch you play video games, being famous for remodeling your house, being famous for looking rich and hot, being famous for having a nice ass. And don't get me started on Instagram "models". Almost all modeling is human trafficking. Insta and OnlyFans are two easy ways to end up as a Dubai Porta Potty. Don't look up that term if you want to sleep tonight.
They don't care about you . . . thank the gods
The parasocial relationship is one-sided. Celebrities and influencers usually do not end up with their fans as lovers or as friends. Generally, they don't give a crap whether their fans live or die, or they simply cannot. Dolly Parton created Dollywood ostensibly for her fans to have a piece of her just as Graceland was supposed to give fans a piece of Elvis Presley. No matter what the intentions of Dollywood were, there was no way Dolly could be friends with all her fans.
Michael Jackson drew many to his own personal compounds which included Neverland Ranch, and he proved that bringing a parasocial relationship with a celebrity into real life could result in a worst-case outcome. As I argued in my dissection of the pop star, Jackson exhibited a destructive pattern with mostly young boys and a few young girls.
Whether or not he diddled his young friends, Jackson had a serialized habit of entering the life of a young fan, becoming his or her best friend, mentor, older brother, and father figure, plying him and his family with promises and gifts, and then brutally exiting when that child passed out of puberty into adulthood. He did it famously with Sean Lennon and Macaulay Culkin and less famously with dozens of semi-unknown and unknown boys. Jackson left broken young adults in his wake who struggled with substances and suicidal ideation. He wrecked entire families. He most likely drove the father of one of his little buddies to suicide by "inspiring" the mother to divorce. There is no doubt that Jackson encouraged and facilitated the overseas moves of multiple children at various times so they could become his emotional support humans.
In the 1970s, Steven Tyler, who was near 30 at the time, seduced a young girl who had recently lost her brother in a tragic car crash. The girl, Julia Holcomb, was 16 when she met Tyler at one of his concerts. Tyler later adopted Holcomb as his ersatz daughter, having her mother sign over papers so he could be with her all the time. When Holcomb became pregnant 3 years later, Tyler coerced and badgered her into having a dangerous, late term abortion. He blamed her for starting a house fire that it is highly unlikely she caused and used it as an excuse to abort their baby son. She is currently suing him.
The moral of these stories is that sometimes the worst thing that can happen is your parasocial wish coming true.
Perez Hilton, parasocial parasite
Bless you if you have no idea who Perez Hilton is or why his name borrows the mojo of a hook-nosed hotel heiress who was once known for a sleepy sex tape and a spray tan. People like you are the reason why the world is still sane. Perez Hilton was one of the first gossip bloggers. He took over where the tabloids left off, trashing celebrities for a living. He personally made Lindsay Lohan's life a living hell during his early 2000s reign of terror. He viciously picked on Britney Spears, telling her in no uncertain terms to kill herself on multiple occasions. He published explicit underskirt photos of Miley Cyrus when she was still a minor. Though he earned his living from the suffering of starlets, he was oddly connected to them, and he was often photographed behind the scenes canoodling with his namesake, Paris Hilton, and other shady figures with whom he supposedly had a hate/hate relationship. He often hung with the Kardashians, raising many questions about controlled opposition.
Perez Hilton's blog was popular enough to make him somewhat of a household name. He has now fallen into near-obscurity. His latest stunt was to cut himself up with a blade during a TikTok live. The mental health episode lasted at least 30 minutes as he self-mutilated. Oddly, TikTok did not take it down for the duration of the bloody show. Perhaps he has some regrets. I think it is more likely he regrets not getting much attention.
Perez Hilton was not beautiful or interesting enough to be a celebrity in this life, so he took the dastardly low road of abusing and slandering the women he wanted to be in order to make a name for himself. He was the ultimate parasocial bully, playing to the evilest perversions of human nature and spreading his malaise across the internet.
May he and his handlers rot quietly in the hell of their own creation for as long as it takes, and may his adopted children be saved from the consequences of his stupidity at every turn.
Groupies
Back in the day, it was a rite of passage for a 14 year old girl to sneak backstage at a rock concert. A chance meeting with the band was worth many extra points if you managed to give the singer or the instrumentalists a handy, a BJ, or the full Friskies platter. There were girls who did this semi-professionally. I knew one of them. Her goal in life was to become intimate with band members, and this was probably because she had been regularly sexually abused and groomed by her father since the age of 4. Her reasoning was probably "Why should I save up what my father takes for free?"
The Grateful Dead had its own traveling community of deadheads, and that community was its own self-contained culture and economy. Deadheads came to a dead end when Jerry died and the band with it, with the remnants flying off to worship other hippie bands and to trade venereal diseases at the annual Rainbow Gathering.
Groupies don't follow and stalk offline like they used to. Instead they reality shift and play-pretend that they are dallying with their favorite celebrities in slightly alternate timelines. I am not sure if this is a good or bad development.
Taking the stars and wool out of our eyes
I hope that the changes I am seeing are heralding the end of parasocial relationships. It is time. We are no longer in the Age of Pisces -- there is no one God to rule them all, nor a single image that can dominate all minds. We are all going our own Aquarian ways, doing our own things.
The pendulum has swung heavily since the turn of the millennium. Hating celebrities was simply not done 40 years ago like it is done today. You either followed celebrity culture or you didn't in 1987 -- openly hating on the rich and famous and their lifestyles did not happen, and gossip rags like the National Enquirer and Star still took a reverent, genuflecting attitude towards Hollywood right up until Perez Hilton. Hating celebrities has been a sport for a considerable amount of time, and we have now arrived at an era where it is also open season on those who are still taken in by celebrity glamour and other CIA psyops.
Perhaps instead of envy, hatred, and lust, we can relearn an innocent admiration for pretty, talented, skilled people that considers them as part of a huge spectrum of possibilities and that does not seek to be them or be with them. The sickening truth is that the desire to enter the heady world of celebrity often begins with a parasocial relationship, not a genuine desire to express one's unique talents or to find one's artistic niche. Yet we have always had the choice of picking what we admire about a celebrity or influencer and leaving ambition entirely out of it. We can say "Wow, that's cool" and move on. Imagining a romantic relationship with a famous stranger is normal and human; consummating that relationship, however, is not likely to end well.
To those embroiled in parasocial relationships: please try to understand that the person that is presented to you is the figment of his handler's imagination. He is a product. All of the ego-shine you are seeing and the magnification of specialness likely houses a narcissist jerk who has probably been to Epstein island.
You have zero friends
The parasocial relationship is a relationship to avoid, and to avoid it, we must be okay with occasionally having zero friends. There are nearly 8 billion people on this planet and finding an emotional connection with another human has never been harder. The answer is not a parasocial relationship. Instead, it is to learn to be with yourself and to accept yourself for what you are, no matter how bad that is. Falling in love with someone on the big stage and screen is a distraction from learning about yourself, examining your problems in meditation, and ruminating about them one at a time until there are far fewer of them amassing to overwhelm you.
The last thing you need is to project a fantasy on someone who does not and cannot care about you. They will never know you, and that is probably their loss. We have to start thinking for ourselves and not put ourselves at the mercy of influences that are planted in us. Evil corporations and anti-human governments that farm us for money and energy are depending upon our gullible love for the people-products they shove down our throats. Don't put your energy into the narcissist at the end of the rainbow -- being a narcissist is practically a requirement when it comes to becoming a celebrity.
Find it within yourself to be cool with yourself. The funny thing about being cool with being alone is you become fascinating to others at the exact moment you do not need to be fascinating to anyone. When you have no need of love, it will throw itself at you. More on that later.
Magic Monday
Oct. 4th, 2026 09:57 pm
It's nearly midnight and so it's time to launch a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism, and with certain exceptions noted below, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note: Any question or comment received after that point will not get an answer, and in fact will not be put through. If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 341,928th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.3 of The Magic Monday FAQ here. Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. And further: I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.
The image? I've been fielding a lot of questions about my books recently, and I thought it would be worth going back over them here, as I did some years ago, and talking a little about them. This is the current edition of my fourth book, Earth Divination, Earth Magic, originally published in 1999; it's on its second publisher these days, and had kind of a wild ride. Geomancy, for those who don't know, is a system of divination using four-digit binary numbers; it is not the same thing as feng-shui (風水), the Chinese art of placement, which sometimes gets given the same label. Knowing the bad habits of the original publisher, I warned them not to market the book as Wiccan feng-shui; in their infinite wisdom, of course, that's exactly what they did. A big printing duly went out to Wicca shops all over the country, and nearly all the copies got sent promptly back once the proprietors discovered that it was not, in fact, Wiccan feng-shui. It thus became the first book of mine to go out of print. I didn't know enough about publishing back then to get it back in print with another firm; that had to wait a while, and in the meantime -- well, that'll come up for discussion when I talk about my second geomancy book. This one is a good solid book on geomancy, and in its new incarnation it's proven just as popular as the other one; you can get a copy here.

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. Because of issues I have with Ko-Fi and Buymeacoffee due to not having a smartphone, and because PayPal has cleaned up its act and stopped debanking people for political reasons, I've returned to asking people to tip there. On the other hand, if you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.
I've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online. And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.
***This Magic Monday is now closed, and no more comments will be put through. See you next week!***
It's Getting Weird Out There
Oct. 3rd, 2026 03:17 pm
One of the reasons I lurk in various odd corners of the internet is that doing so quite often gives me unexpected access to the crawlspaces of the American collective unconscious. Partly that's entertaining, partly it tolerably often gives me advance warning of changes in consciousness that will sooner or later have political, economic, or cultural impacts......and then there are things like this.
If you happen to go onto eBay and enter a search string along the lines of "Trump bath water," it will take you straight here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/336825356170
The person selling the item on the left insists that, via a relative who works at the White House, she got access to water in which Donald Trump bathed. You can have your own 1 oz. vial of the liquid in question for a mere $600.00. I have no idea whether the seller is telling the truth or whether she's an unusually imaginative scam artist, nor does that greatly matter. How many presidents since JFK, let's say, can you imagine having the kind of cultural mojo that leads people to try to sell their bathwater? I've suspected for quite some time -- since not long after the 2016 election, in fact -- that Trump was going to be turned into a folk saint among working class Americans. I thought, though, that in the usual way of things his folk canonization would wait until he was safely dead, and his merely human qualities could be safely buried under a vast heap of archetypal imagery. Apparently I was mistaken. It's already happening.
Nor, I find, is this the only bit of quasireligious Trumpery to be had on eBay. The novena candle on the right is only one of quite a few Saint Donald Trump (sic) novena candles you can buy there. You can pick up this one here, if you're so minded:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196584622911
Folk saints have had a significant presence in the culture of the American underclass for quite a while now -- most hoodoo shops, for example, carry novena candles of St. Martin Luther King, which African-American people burn as part of spells meant to protect themselves from the consequences of racial prejudice. Given the very wide spread of hoodoo among all ethnic groups in the American underclass, I suspect quite a few candles like this are being burnt right now by people who want to make their lives, their small businesses, or their countries great again.
Strange days...
